Lite Apps

Lite apps are simpler (less sophisticated), light-weight versions of standard apps with most of the features (in standard app) built into them; they often promise to be faster (especially on slow devices) because they use less resources like memory, and are designed to work on slow networks (like 2G) & outdated devices that normally wouldn't support the full-packaged, standard version. Installation size is low and they don't cluster memory on the long run during their usage.

They started as feature-restricted versions of full-featured (sometimes paid) apps when they started getting on application stores. For example, there was a "Try Before You Buy" which allowed users to test these lite apps and maybe, purchase them later if enticed by the functionalities, as far back as 2010.

Many (app) companies, including but not limited to Facebook, Ola, Uber, PUBG, Google, Adobe & Opera, have built lite versions of their apps to reach more audience and offer almost the same functionality to all users.

Google Incorporated has also made lite versions of its apps over the years, especially on Android 8.1 Oreo aka Android Oreo Go Edition, when efforts were made to simplify the Android OS for use on lower-end devices.
